Before you start
- Open the project and select the task.
- The skill must exist in your space, and the person you want as task manager must be one of the project's users. If they are not, see The person is not in the list below.
What you are adding
| You add | It says | Where it shows |
|---|---|---|
| A skill | which capability the task needs. LYNX-X proposes a resource who has it. | The task's Assignments tab, and beside the task's bar |
| A task manager | who looks after the task and keeps it up to date | The task's Taskmanagers tab. The task also appears in the task manager's My activities |
The project manager can also be a task manager. That is useful: the task then appears in your own My activities, where you see when it needs updating and what to update.
Procedure
Adding a skill to a task
- In the task details at the bottom, select the Assignments tab.
- Select Show Resources / skills.
The Drag & drop to task panel opens on the right, on Skills.
- To find the skill quickly, type part of its name in the filter box.
- Select the skill.
- Select Add item(s).
- Select Save.
Tip
You can also drag the skill from the panel onto the task. The task's row turns orange when you are over it; release to add the skill.
Adding a task manager to a task
- In the task details at the bottom, select the Taskmanagers tab.
- Select Show Project users.
The same panel opens, this time on Task managers. It lists the project's users.
- Select the person.
- Select Add item(s).
- Select Save.
Dragging a person onto the task works here too.
Expected outcome
The skill is a new row on the Assignments tab: S: Software Engineer, with the resource LYNX-X proposes. The asterisk in *Rick Jackson means the assignment is soft: a proposal, not yet confirmed. The skill's name also appears next to the task's bar, and the count on the tab goes up by one.
The task manager is listed on the Taskmanagers tab, and the count on the tab goes up by one.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Resolution |
|---|---|
| Add item(s) stays grey. | Nothing is selected in the panel yet. Select the skill or person first. |
| The person is not in the list. | The list only shows the project's users. Select Invite users in the panel to invite someone from your user table, or a new user by email. |
| The panel shows the wrong list. | The panel follows the tab you have open. Open Assignments for skills, Taskmanagers for task managers. |
| The task does not appear in the task manager's My activities. | A task only appears there once the project is released and the task is active. |
